The University of Hong Kong (HKU) 2024 Bachelor’s degree graduates have achieved remarkable success in the job market, with the average monthly gross salary rising 4.7% to a record high of HK$33,492. The employment rate also stood at 98.7%, marking the 19th consecutive year of full employment.
The employment survey received responses from 83% of the total 3,792 full-time Bachelor’s degree graduates. Among the employed graduates, 98.6% received their first job offer by December 2024, with 95.8% working in Hong Kong. The proportion of graduates pursuing further studies remained steady at approximately 22%.
Commerce and Industry, accounting for 45.9%, was the predominant employment sector. Compared to the previous year, the Civil Service sector increased from 14.4% to 16.8%, while the Community, Social, and Personal Services sector saw a slight decline from 23.3% to 21.2%.
Amid ongoing economic fluctuations and an uncertain job market – reflected by a sharp decline of over 9,400 full-time positions (a 38% drop in full-time job postings on the inter-university JIJIS job database compared to the same period last year) – the Class of 2024 has achieved strong graduate employment outcomes across key indicators.
These encouraging results align with HKU’s recent rise to 11th place in the 2026 QS World University Rankings, with a notable achievement in Employer Reputation. This underscores the continued confidence employers place in the capabilities of HKU graduates.
HKU graduates are well-positioned to excel and adapt in the increasingly competitive job market, making meaningful contributions that embody the values and spirit of the University.
