Bringing a Joyful Start to the Year of the Horse

Participants gather for the HKU CEDARS Spring Reception 2026, celebrating the Chinese New Year of the Horse.
Professor Xiang Zhang, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKU, expresses his appreciation to students for their support of university initiatives over the past year and emphasises the university’s commitment to supporting student development.
Professor Kelvin Yeung, Dean of Student Affairs of HKU, expresses gratitude to university staff across faculties and units for their concerted effort in supporting students.

Organised by the Centre of Development and Resources for Students (CEDARS) at The University of Hong Kong (HKU), the HKU CEDARS Spring Reception 2026 brought together over 300 students, staff, and guests to celebrate the Chinese New Year on 6 March 2026 at HKU Convocation Room.
The event was graced by the presence of Professor Xiang Zhang, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKU, Professor Chen Lin, Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Business) of HKU, Faculty Deans and representatives, Hall Wardens and College Masters, who joined the university community in fostering a sense of unity, gratitude, and celebration.
In his welcoming remarks, Professor Xiang Zhang expressed his appreciation to students for their support of university initiatives over the past year. “We attach huge importance to the wellbeing of our students. Over the past few years, our student numbers have been on the rise. HKU is enhancing its facilities in many ways to provide adequate support to our students, and ensure that our students have an inspiring and enjoyable time here,” he said.
Professor Kelvin Yeung, Dean of Student Affairs of HKU, highlighted the major CEDARS events held in the past year, expressed gratitude to university staff across faculties and units for their concerted effort in supporting students, and looked forward to another inspiring year filled with learning and growth.
The event featured an array of student performances, including an energetic lion dance, a student band, and a quartet; as well as a ceremonial roasted pig cutting officiated by esteemed guests to mark prosperity and good fortune. Bespoke souvenirs have been presented to students as tokens of appreciation and blessings from CEDARS.
CEDARS continues to strive for excellence in promoting student engagement, campus integration, well-being, careers and employability, with an ultimate goal of nurturing student leaders to serve the University and the wider community.
